The iCount is an annual point-in-time count specifically for youth ages 13-24 experiencing homelessness or housing instability across Miami-Dade County. This is done because the Youth Homelessness Initiative seeks to better understand youth experiencing homelessness in order to better service and provide for them. The iCount is planned, carried out, and coordinated by MHFA, Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust, Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Project UP-START, and the numerous partners and members of the YHI. Previous to 2017, the iCount was exclusively done online. However, it was still provided at various magnet sites, mainly Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The Miami-Dade Homeless Trust also counted youth each year in their point-in-time count.
Remember the data from the iCount is not representative of every homeless youth in Miami-Dadenor is it able to count every single homeless youth. The iCount also determines how many of youth surveyed fall under different federal definitions of homelessness.
