EJW Fellow

Law Clerk

About the Position
MHFA is looking for volunteer law clerks who will:

  • Commit at least 10 hours per week. MHFA is flexible: law clerks may work at MHFA’s office (CIC Miami, 1951 NW 7 Avenue, Miami, FL 33136) or remotely.

  • Research best practices for policies in affordable housing, preservation, youth experiencing homelessness, and adults experiencing homelessness.

  • Compile and organize data to support policy positions.

  • Attend commission meetings and other convenings related to affordable housing and homelessness. 

  • Work on other assigned, related duties.

Currently attending law school or recent law school graduate.

  • Excellent legal research and communication skills.

  • Experience in and/or a demonstrated commitment or interest in social justice issues.

  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and creatively with cross-sector stakeholders.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to be able to interact effectively with a wide and diverse group of individuals and community groups.

  • Excellent work ethic and integrity.

  • Demonstrated time and project management skills, including an ability to meet multiple deadlines. 

  • Excellent computer and social media skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Prezi, Canva, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and G-Suite. Adobe CC a plus.

  • Possess a valid Florida Driver License and car or the ability to travel in and around Miami-Dade County, Florida for meetings and other events.

  • Physical Requirements: must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to lift twenty pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Volunteer. Unfortunately, MHFA cannot offer a stipend, but is happy to support law students’ applications for funding through their law schools or other grants. Externships also welcome.
