Everyone deserves A SAFE, AFFORDABLE place to call home

Miami is the least affordable CITY in the country

Our affordable housing crisis is crushing working families. We’re missing 90,000 affordable rental homes for households earning up to $75,000 per year. This gap in affordable supply contributes enormously to the fact that more than half of Miami-Dade households – over 500,00 families – cannot afford the basics. This includes our preschool and day care teachers, home health aides, medical assistants, drivers, restaurant and hotel workers, and elders on fixed income. However, this is a solvable issue.

Read our new analysis, “Accelerating Affordable Housing: The Funds Miami-Dade Needs Now” - sponsored by the Health Foundation of South Florida and Wells Fargo - detailing the amount and type of funding needed to greatly accelerate the growth of low-cost housing in Miami-Dade.

OUR MISSION

Miami Homes For All's mission is to ensure that all Miami-Dade residents have a safe, affordable place to call home.

We are especially concerned with households earning 80% of area median income or less.

Nearly all of those pay more than they can afford for housing. Also, the shortage of units for those households is 5 times the shortage for those earning over 80% of area median income.

OUR WORK

We aim to strengthen Miami-Dade’s housing ecosystem so that it:

  • Produces more affordable housing

  • Preserves that which we have

  • Increases marginalized residents’ access to that housing

celebrating 40 years of impact!

For 40 years, Miami Homes For All has helped shape our community’s most impactful housing solutions - from reversing the rise in homelessness in the 1980s to advocating for more affordable housing as a foundation for health, safety and opportunity. Today, many families have been pushed out of Miami-Dade due to unsustainably high housing costs.

But we don’t accept a future where only some get to stay and thrive.

Thank you for joining us on October 29 as we reflected on what is past - honoring those who have shaped our work so far; what is present - examining the current state of housing affordability; and what is possible - sharing our vision of a future Miami that has a place for everyone and our plan to get there.

2024 Ruth Shack LEADERSHIP Award

In October 2024, Executive Director, Annie Lord was honored with the Ruth Shack Leadership Award by the Miami Foundation for her service addressing greater Miami's housing crisis. She joins an astounding group of past awardees who have followed Ruth's example in supporting everyone's ability to thrive in Miami, even as we grow.

Accepting the award, she asked the audience to remember:

"Miami has hustle...But Miami doesn't work if the people that make it run can't afford to live here. We have to invest public resources in the affordable housing that we need.”
